Golf

There aren’t quite as many golf courses in Centro as in its neighbouring regions but the Montebelo course near Viseu is still world class and currently holding the World Corporate Golf Challenge 2009. The course has been divided into two nines and named after the two local main landmarks. The first nine holes is the Caramulo Course and the second nine the Estrela Course. Surrounded by trees, gorse and heather, it is laid out on undulating terrain with good views of the local mountain ranges of Serra do Caramulo and Serra da Estrela. Set in over 492 acres, Montebelo was designed by Mark Stilwell and Malcolm Kenyon to respect both the terrain's dimensions and its shape.

The par-5 second hole has 533 metres and is the longest on the course. With its dogleg on the left it is memorable for those who play it, and has the hills of Caramulo as its background.. The shortest hole is the par-3 seventeenth with only 163 metres and offers a good opportunity to obtain that elusive "Hole-in-One" - however, players do well to note that the green is well protected by bunkers. The twelfth is a most attractive hole, sloping downwards with beautiful views and a lake behind the green. The par-5 eighteenth also provides an attractive challenge to your short game as the green is two-tiered and once again well defended by bunkers.
